Portogruaro: A Guided Walk Through the Little Venice on the Lemene

Guided walking tour of Portogruaro's old town: the Sant'Andrea watermills, the Duomo, Venetian arcades and the emerald Lemene. Aperitivo option available.

The writer Ippolito Nievo called it "little Venice", and a short walk is enough to see why. Portogruaro grew up along the river Lemene in the 12th century as a collection point for the farmland administered by the Bishop of Concordia. From 1420, under Venetian rule, it became the most important river port in the area — and three centuries of Venice are still written into its palaces, arcades and bridges.
The walk begins in Piazza della Repubblica, in front of the town hall, and drops down to the old Sant'Andrea watermills: once the engine of the local economy, today the most photographed corner of town, their wheels rising out of the emerald-green water. Along the way you pass beneath Italy's third most tilted bell tower, step inside the Duomo di Sant'Andrea to see its frescoes, and wander through lanes and small squares that feel lifted straight from the lagoon and set down on dry land.
30 minutes entirely flat itinerary — ideal if you only have half a day.

Option 1 — Guided walk only
Portogruaro's old town through the eyes of a local guide: Venetian architecture, watermills on the river and the green waters of the Lemene, in a compact but rewarding route. Aperitivo not included — you can add it on the spot if you fancy one.

Option 2 — Guided walk + aperitivo
The same route through the heart of Portogruaro, with a fitting finale: the tour ends at the Info Point, among local produce, where you'll be handed a voucher for a Venetian aperitivo at a traditional bar in town.
